DYSON INSULATIONS TWENTY20 CUP FINAL

DYSON INSULATIONS TWENTY20 CUP FINAL

In previous rounds, St Lawrence had been successful when chasing the runs, but tonight they were batting first.  Much depended upon opener Alex Stead whose 67* in the quarterfinal and 77* in the semi had been the star turn - and the only disappointment was that on this occasion, he fell just 3 runs short of a magnificent, monumental century. His first 50 came in 28 balls, and the entire 97 came in just fifty balls. But even this tremendous scoring rate was eclipsed by Gareth Clough, whose

64 came off just 30 balls. The pair put on 143 for the second wicket in just 39 minutes, and whilst the strokeplay might have been adventurous and spectacular, neither gave a single chance. The partnership effectively won the match as the highest team score of the entire competition, 223 for 4 was posted.

However, opponents Bradford & Bingley were not going to capitulate, and there was concern when openers Davies and Duce passed 50 in only the 3rd over.  But once both had

been removed by catches in the deep, the St Lawrence bowlers - led yet again by Mark Robertshaw (4 for 21) - got on top, taking all ten wickets with 5 balls to spare.  A 45 run winning margin is huge by Twenty20 standards at this level, and so St Lawrence were very worthy winners.

PSL 223 for 4 (A Stead 97, G Clough 64)

B & B 178 all out (M Duce 42, S Davies 30, M Robertshaw 4 for 21, G Clough 2 for 33, A Stead 2 for 44)
