OUR GOLDEN HERITAGE

The club was established in 1845 and in the 164 years since, has continuously produced teams and individual cricketers of high quality.  Two of Yorkshire’s and England’s greatest players, Herbert Sutcliffe, and Sir Leonard Hutton began their careers here, and Sir Len continued to have a lifetime’s involvement with the club. In addition, St Lawrence has produced many exceptional cricketers who have gone on to play for Yorkshire or other First Class counties, and the occasional one for England!

CRICKET TODAY

The club’s 1st XI are one of the top teams in the whole of Yorkshire.

The club also fields 3 other senior teams, FOUR junior teams (Under 11s to Under 17s), and provides top-class coaching for all age groups.  On Friday evenings during the season, Junior practice night witnesses up to 150 boys -and girls- from the age of 7 and upwards having great fun and developing their skills under the watchful eye of trained coaches, all of whom are child-protection accredited.

Our 1st XI play highly competitive cricket in the semi-professional JCT600 Bradford Cricket League.   Virtually all  sides in this league field imported county and overseas players, and even the occasional International.  But because of one of the best Junior and Youth development programmes in the whole country, St Lawrence are extremely proud that the majority of their 1st XI are home-grown players - capable each year of competing for top honours. Current 1st XI captain James Smith was a junior here, and has since played for 4 county sides.

A FAMILY CLUB

St Lawrence have a long history of being a family club.  This goes back to Herbert Sutcliffe, whose father played  here, and Sir Leonard played alongside his brothers.  This tradition continues to the present day with the club currently having 4 father and son combinations playing in various teams.

The Club continues to be proud of its history and true to its tradition, whilst also being committed to the future.

NOT JUST A CRICKET CLUB

The club’s clubhouse operates as a free house, and as such is one of the best “pubs” in Pudsey - but with some significant bonuses:  prices are generally lower here, and we serve REAL ALE.  We also have a Social Committee who are always arranging new events and attractions!
